Young Melodians Event
As part of our plan to widen the appeal of the show to young people at the Saddleworth Show (Churchill Playing Fields, Greenfield/Uppermill) this year we will again be running a Young Melodians event for young brass players adjudicated by David Ashworth, Musical Director of Boarshurst Band, who is well known to Brass enthusiasts across the North West.
Youngsters in three age groups are invited to perform an unaccompanied solo on their instrument during the afternoon of the show between 12.30 and 3.45 p.m. Each entrant will receive an adjudicator’s certificate with a trophy and prizes of £15 for the best in each category, with £10 & £5 for runners up. There is free entry to the show for all participants. (Show your instrument to the gatekeepers.)
The Age Groups are Y1-6; Y7-9; and Y10 - 13
Rules and registration form
- There is no entry fee
- Players will play on the Band Platform (near the Tennis Courts) between performances by Delph Band and Oldham (Lees) Band
- Participants will play an unaccompanied solo on the instrument of their choice
- Participants will be given 5 up to minutes for their performance
- Participants must supply the adjudicator with a copy of the music they will be playing together with a copy of their registration form
- Times of sessions : Provisionally 12.30 – 2.15 2.30 – 3.45 (36 slots of 5 minutes each)
- Winners will be announced and presentations made at 4.00 p.m.
- Registration ahead of the day is advised, though, if there are places available, entries on the day will be accepted.
- Players will be given a Certificate of Participation and an Adjudicator’s report.
- The Adjudicator’s decision is final
